Morgan & Paul's Wedding DJ at The Mill Barns

Ah yes, the first dance. Some newlyweds love the idea, some dread it. One couple will make their first dance a spectacle, while another couple will shuffle side-to-side for three and a half minutes. Whichever way you go, you will have the full attention of everyone in the room. I was Morgan & Paul’s wedding DJ at The Mill Barns a few months ago, and those two took full advantage of being the centre of attention.

Regular readers of this Blog would have seen that I’ve spoken about the first dance a few times. From Sophie & James being serenaded by Gareth Gates, to pretending that I had a computer failure during Lauren & Nathan’s big moment, I have been there to witness and partake in some incredibly memorable moments.

Morgan & Paul had a big plan for their first dance at The Mill Barns, and it all started when Paul woke up one morning after a vivid dream. As he slept, Paul dreamt that as he and Morgan were centre stage taking their first dance as husband and wife, a slideshow of photos was being played in the background. Holiday snaps, parties, get togethers…you get the idea.

Nothing unusual there, but then we get to the end of the song. I’ll tell you about that in a moment, because I need to give special kudos and bow down gracefully to the very affable Philip James Photography. To say that Phil is a master wedding photographer who knows his shit would be an understatement, and he really needed to dig deep into his experience and skillset to capture this moment perfectly. I fully appreciated what he had to do to get this right, and I really did not envy him!

Comparatively, my job as Morgan & Paul’s wedding DJ was a bit easier, but I did need to grow a third arm with all the mic holding and button pressing. With the new Mr. & Mrs. dancing to John Legend’s 'Conversations In The Dark', the slideshow played in time with the music with only a select few knowing what was going to happen next.

And what happened? The last photo of the slideshow was a from an ultrasound scan and the sound that played when John Legend had finished was of the baby’s heartbeat – Morgan was pregnant! Screams of joy from all in attendance at The Mill Barns were made louder when the boom of a confetti cannon revealed that Morgan & Paul were going to be blessed with a baby boy!

Now that was a hell of a moment, and you can see that Phil absolutely nailed capturing the joy and emotion of Morgan, Paul and their loved ones. As first dances go, this one was unique and I would be surprised if Phil or I end up experiencing another one like it.

Congrats to Morgan & Paul on the marriage and the joy of a baby boy, and thanks to Philip James Photography for allowing me to use some of his photos. You can check out more of Phil’s award-winning wedding photography on his website by clicking here.
