Lauren & Nathan's Wedding DJ at Norton Fields

If you’re a regular reader of this Blog, you’ll know that I like to get a bit creative while I’m partying at weddings with a good bunch of people who know how to have a good time. When I was Lauren & Nathan’s wedding DJ at Norton Fields, ‘a bit creative’ was not going to cut it at all.

While I was chatting to Lauren & Nathan a few weeks before their big day, I got to learn a little about the pair of them and find out what it is that they and their guests love to dance to. These guys are into the big dance tunes from artists such as Craig David and Joel Corry, as well as some of the cheesy pop songs that you would likely hear in Popworld. They also wanted to make sure that there was enough variety so that everyone could dance to something that they would enjoy. As it was my first time as a wedding DJ at Norton Fields, I was looking forward to doing my thang in a new venue, and my remit meant that I had plenty to work with.

It was during our chat when Lauren & Nathan told me that they wanted to do something special for their first dance. To begin with, they wanted to shuffle to the acoustic version of ‘Latch’ by Sam Smith. Then, after a short time, change it up to one of their favourite dance tunes: Craig David’s ‘Ain’t Giving Up’. How we got from song A to song B was left entirely in my hands. With the challenge set, it was time to stock up on cans of Monster, lock myself away in the studio, let the creative juices flow and see what I can come up with.

Making the transition between these two wildly different songs was always going to be difficult. The quick and [arguably] lazy solution would have been to just slam ‘Ain’t Giving Up’ in after the first chorus of ‘Latch’. The problem with that method is that it would sound unnatural, jarring and a bit too random.

I also wanted to avoid the power down, spin back or record scratch effects because those transitions have been done to death. The average wedding DJ can do that, and I wanted to give Lauren & Nathan a moment that would be talked about for years to come.

A few ideas came to mind, but it took a while to find one that felt right. After a few days of pondering (and, I’ll admit, swapping the Monster for a stronger drink!), I struck gold: what if everyone thought that the Leicestershire wedding DJ screwed up?

That idea in itself isn’t new, but along with my experience in radio, I have a pedigree in audio production. That means that I can produce something that sounds very convincing. Along with that, I also have computer-controlled lighting, so I can create a show that really accentuates the moment.

With the storyboard in my head, I got to work in creating not only a custom first dance, but also a custom lightshow. I challenge any other wedding DJ at Norton Fields to go that far for their clients!

So how did it turn out? You can see on the video that it was an epic moment for Lauren & Nathan! The newlyweds played their parts fantastically well, helping make their guests believe that it was all going to pot before revealing that it was part of the plan to make their first dance memorable. Lauren & Nathan’s efforts really sold the moment, and I doff my proverbial cap to them both. Bravo.

Norton Fields is a stunning weding venue, and I had a lot of fun partying with Lauren, Nathan & Co.  If you're looking for a wedding DJ in Leicestershire, then click the button below to see if I'm available.
