There’s a lot that I love about my job, but the thing that I hold up above everything else is that I get to meet and work with some incredibly awesome people. I’ve said many times in the past that being a DJ has allowed me to perform for some absolute legends, and a fantastic example of this is Sapphire & Martyn, where I was – to say the least – chuffed to bits to DJ at their Wedding at Wishaw Country Sports.
19 months. That’s how far in advanced Sapphire dropped me a message asking whether I was available for her and Martyn’s big day. A few days later, I was exhibiting at an Open Day for Shustoke Barns and guess who decided to pop in to have a chat with me. Now, I really liked this approach because I believe that the most important thing when booking a DJ – or any supplier – for your wedding is that you get along with them, as I discussed in a previous Blog entry a while ago. The conversation that I had with Sapphire and Martyn was brief but really nice and within a couple of weeks, everything was booked and confirmed.
Roll on a year and a bit and it was time for our chat to tailor their evening entertainment. When I first met them at the Open Day, I remember thinking to myself that these two are a nice couple. When Sapphire & Martyn left my house after chatting about what music they and their guests love, I realised that they are just awesome! We sat in my kitchen and chatted not only about their wedding, but my wife and I got to know them a bit more and we really got on. They also fell in love with my dog, which clearly means that they are good people!
The weather was on their side for their big day and by the time we arrived at Wishaw Country Sports, the temperature was, for the first time that day, finally at a comfortable level where guests could sit outside. As it was such a nice evening and folk were relaxing and enjoying themselves outside, I did what I have been known to do – pop a speaker outside after getting permission from Anne & David from the venue to do so and play some chilled Balearic tunes. Well, as it was such a nice summer evening, why not create a Spanish holiday feel in Sutton Coldfield? It was also a chance for me to catch up with Stephen from SWJ Photography, who I hadn’t seen for what seems like a long time. I first met Stephen while he was still very much in the infancy of his photography career and from there, I have seen via his Facebook and Instagram how much this guy has flourished. Simply put, he is a top bloke and his work is fantastic! The photos on this Blog are all mine but you can check out the preview of his work here.
From the Balearic Lounge beginnings to the Pop Punk ending, this wedding very much spoke what I believe to be the personalities of Sapphire & Martyn: chilled. The music was varied and wide to ensure that everyone heard something that they would enjoy, and the setting of The Lodge at Wishaw Country Sports was perfect for both relaxing and partying. Congratulations Sapphire & Martyn – you guys are awesome!
