Rosie & Stan's Wedding DJ at Over Barn
Nearly fifteen years ago, a nineteenth century barn originally built to store grain was lovingly restored. With the dusty beams sandblasted, the dirt floor concreted and the roof repaired to keep those inside nice and dry, Over Barn became an authentically rustic wedding venue in Gloucester. I was there over the summer to party with Rosie, Stan and all of their guests, and there were a lot of memorable moments that day.
One of those memorable moments happened on the drive down to Gloucester. You see, we work really hard to make sure that we are never late, and I can proudly say that there has never been a case where we’ve left those waiting for a good party wondering where the damn DJ is (touch wood). The A40 decided to test our mettle though, as on our way to Over Barn, we had to drive past a light aircraft that had plonked itself onto the central reservation!
Thankfully nobody was hurt, but having to manoeuvre around the wing of a plane was definitely a unique experience for this DJ.
Anyway, Rosie & Stan’s summer wedding was complemented with clear skies and high temperatures. As the evening drew in, the mercury fell to a point where - for the first time that day - it was nice to sit in the courtyard, so when we rocked up, we saw guests outside drinking, laughing and enjoying the sunset.
A lot of DJs would complain that everyone is outside enjoying themselves. Not me though. If you want to enjoy the outside and then start the party a bit later on, then that’s what we’ll do. While Rosie, Stand & Co. were out in the courtyard, I popped a little speaker out there to add a bit of a Balearic soundtrack to the evening. Doing so perfectly complemented the mood of the moment, and when everyone was ready, we moved back into the Barn to get the party started.
Indie to House, Pop to Hip-Hop, and even a bit of on-the-spot remixing, Rosie, Stan & Co. really did put in a shift on that dance floor – they were clearly adamant that the humidity was not going to stop them from partying. For that, I doff my proverbial cap to them all.
Oliver Kirk was Roise & Stan’s wedding photographer, and he was charged with capturing epic portraits and documenting dodgy dance moves. Oliver is as chilled as they come, and the way he is able to connect with his clients really comes across in his work. As you can see from the photos that he has kindly let me use for this Blog, Oliver works hard to be in the right place at the right time to ensure that he gets the photos that you will cherish forever.

It was my first time at Over Barn, and I’m really looking forward to going back there again. If possible though, no downed aircraft please. Keep the fun party - that bit was ace - but...y'know...keep the planes in the sky, yeah?
