Laura & Will's Wedding DJ at Wren Hall
It’s not very often that I get to be a wedding DJ at village halls, and that’s a shame. Don’t get me wrong when I say that: having the chance to rock the dance floors at the stunning venues that I frequent is always a lot of fun, but there is something about the blank canvas of a village hall that really appeals to me. The fact that you can do pretty much anything you want to personalise a village hall for your wedding is something that I don’t think is taken advantage of anywhere near enough, so I was excited when Laura & Will asked me if I would be their wedding DJ at Wren Hall in Wroxall.
Chilled vibes were very much the tone at this wedding. After saying the I Do’s at Stratford-upon-Avon Town Hall, Laura, Will & Co. made their way to Wren Hall, and it wasn’t too long before I rocked up. Laura & Will are primary school teachers, and just like most people in that profession, these guys chose to have their wedding over the summer holidays. Of course, August weddings are usually accompanied by glorious weather (touch wood…I didn’t just jinx that, did I?), so after the speeches were complete, everybody went straight outside to chill, chat, drink the superb offerings from The Little Cocktail Bar and enjoy the Warwickshire air, surrounded by Wren Hall's rural green space.
Completely understandable. It may have been August, but we are all too aware that there’s only a finite amount of good weather days for us to enjoy anywhere near Warwick!
With the newlyweds and their guests really digging the relaxed atmosphere outside, I set up a little speaker to complement the good feels with a chilled, Balearic soundtrack. I know that I should be telling tales of an epic dance floor from start to finish, but these guys weren't ready to party yet, and trying to force them to do something that they don't want to do is not enjoyable for anyone. My job is to entertain, so I gave Laura, Will and their guests exactly what they wanted in that moment, and we'll go back inside to party when it's the right time to do so. Having a Warwickshire wedding DJ who adapts to what you and your loved ones want in that moment is a great thing, and I really enjoyed mingling with guests while they drank, ate and made full use of the picnic benches. What made it even better was getting the chance to catch up with a photographer who I really enjoy working with, but don’t get to do so anywhere near enough: the incomparable Lisa Webb.
A clear contender for the nicest and most genuine wedding photographer in the Midlands, Lisa’s style captures weddings exactly as they are, but with a touch of her creative flair added into the mix. You only need to speak to her for a few minutes to understand why Lisa’s couples and their guests fall in love with her, and I’m thankful that Lisa has let me use a few of her photos for this Blog.
Usually, this will be the bit where I tell the story of the first time I met Lisa at The Mill Barns, but I have no doubt that she is fed up with me regaling that tale. If you’re curious though, go ask her…
With the outside having been enjoyed enough, we headed back into Wren Hall so that this Wroxall wedding DJ could do his thang! Taking centre stage to kick of the party, Laura & Will’s song of choice for their first dance was Rag'n'Bone Man’s ‘As You Are’. Despite my inspirational pep talk and expertly coached slow dance practice with the Groom before the main event (that doesn’t sound too weird, does it?), Will was really not looking forward to being the centre of attention. So much so that as soon as he was done swaying with his new Bride, he immediately darted off the dance floor at a speed that would make Usain Bolt do a double take. I did check on Will a short while later, and I can happily report that he didn’t pull a thigh muscle in the process!
With tunes from Reverend And The Makers, Green Day, Ed Sheeran, Abba and more, the soundtrack to Laura & Will’s wedding disco at Wren Hall was an eclectic mix enjoyed by all in attendance, perfectly captured by Lisa with her silky skills. And her camera…obvs.

After the party had finished, I got to witness another aspect that I love about village hall weddings – the sense of camaraderie while everyone from the newlyweds to the guests work together to get everything packed away at the end of the night. Admittedly, packing down tables and chairs at the end of your wedding may not sound like a lot of fun, but you would be surprised by the laughter and banter that comes with it.
I had a lot of fun as a Wroxall wedding DJ for Laura, Will and Co., and I doff my proverbial cap to them all for their efforts in making it a perfect day for the newlyweds. Bravo all.
