Dani & Matt’s Wedding DJ at Shustoke Barn
Dani & Matt’s post-Christmas-but-pre-New-Year wedding was my last gig of 2019 and, quite frankly, I couldn’t have thought of a much better way to end the year – performing as a DJ for a fun bunch at Shustoke Barn. Would you like to know a secret? More often than not, being a DJ doesn’t feel like a job at all, even if it is during that week between Christmas and the New Year where nobody can tell you what day it is.
After some early evening mingling whilst the evening guests arrive, we kick things off with the first dance of Say You Won’t Let Go by James Arthur (the version that he performed on BBC Radio 1’s Live Lounge) and from there, the floodgates were opened. A wide range of music was played but there were two parts during the evening that will stand out above the rest.
Firstly, we went a bit Ibiza and when I say “a bit”, I actually mean “very”! I’ve mentioned on this Blog before how I like to get a bit creative, especially during my Dance sets and this night was no different. Doffing the proverbial cap to different eras of Dance music, throwing in acapellas and samples (because I like to show off) whilst also watching on as Dani, Matt and Co. were bouncing off the walls just proves that for your Wedding, you need more than a standard ‘mobile disco’.
The other most memorable part of the night would be the last forty-five minutes or so, which was dedicated to Indie, Rock & Alternative Bangers. From the high tempo of Chelsea Dagger to the concussion-inducing headbanging style of Last Resort and everything in between, this was the part of the night where this crowd became very hoarse.
On hand to video this amazing day and night was James at Eternal Images. James has lots of experience working with DJs who provide a sub-standard service and knows that poor, tacky pub function DJs ruin people’s wedding celebrations on a regular basis. As you can see from the fantastic short that James has very kindly produced for this very Blog, the lighting that I use works stunningly well and when you complement that level of production value with a DJ who doesn’t just press play on a playlist that has been tried and true for the last 30 years, your Perfect Day will get the Incredible Night that it deserves.
