Cameron’s Great Gatsby Themed Birthday Party at Ellenborough Park

It’s getting to that time of year where, for me at least, the number of weddings that I DJ at start to decrease but the number of all other event types start to increase – particularly birthday parties. A lot of these birthday shindigs tend to be themed and that was certainly the case for Cameron as he celebrated his 30th by having a Great Gatsby themed party at Ellenborough Park.

It all started when Amy dropped me a message via this very website looking for a DJ for her husband’s 30th birthday party and while she was there, she also enquired whether I had ever performed alongside any Saxophone players. The simple answer to that is one is yes! I’ve worked with a lot of Saxophone players over the years and as a result, I’ve got a little black book of those who I rate very highly and from that, Amy & Cameron were happy to book Tom Brookes.

The first time that I worked with Tom was at Charlotte & Tom’s (different Tom) wedding last year at Shustoke Barn (you may have spotted a video of that wedding somewhere on this website) and we’ve worked together several times since then. I enjoy working with Tom because he is as much fun as he is good on the ol’ brass so I knew that he and I would make Cameron’s birthday at Ellenborough Park a memorable night.

Along with playing some bangers from the soundtrack of The Great Gatsby, Cameron spoke of his love for classic Hip-Hop anthems whilst also wanting to make the most of Tom’s skills by having a bit of a Balearic Lounge vibe. As you can probably tell, that is a massive contrast in styles but playing such a vast range in music what I do for each and every event! With all of Cameron's guests really setting the standard when it comes to fancy dress (including one chap in a red dress – something I couldn’t work out whether it was done really well or done really badly!), Cameron’s birthday shindig was a great night of celebration. Complement that with a [subjectively] handsome DJ with a lightshow and sound system that made De La Bere Court sound as good as it looked, and you’ve got the makings of an epic night. Standard mobile disco? Pah!
